A long active (up to 3 years) contraceptive implant that is inserted under the skin in the upper arm. It is a reversible hormone-releasing contraceptive method. It should be removed at the end of the 3-year period. Nexplanon is 99% effective (source NexplanonLess than 1 pregnancy per 100 women who used NEXPLANON for 1 year, and as effective as the birth control pill). It’s placed discreetly under the skin of your inner, upper arm by your health care provider. Since it is inserted in the arm, NEXPLANON does not need to be taken daily, weekly or monthly.

If you are considering contraception, we encourage you to talk to your doctor to consider all of your available options.
